Building Bridges, Breaking Molds: How Sierra-Lynn Moreira is Redefining Support in Rural Communities

In small towns like Palmerston, community is everything—and true community means ensuring everyone has the space to thrive, belong, and push boundaries.
During her graduate studies, Sierra-Lynn Moreira turned a long-time dream into reality right here in town. Backed by a decade of hands-on experience supporting adults and youth with disabilities across both private and funded sectors, Sierra recognized a glaring gap: rural communities needed far more dynamic, forward-thinking opportunities for individuals to grow and connect.
In March 2022, she rolled up her sleeves and opened Building Bridges Adult Day Program, bringing an entirely fresh vision to life.
Rethinking Support from the Ground Up
Building Bridges isn't your standard, check-the-box day program. Driven by Sierra's passion for thinking outside the box,the program is built entirely on a person-centered philosophy. Instead of focusing on limitations, the team focuses on what individuals can do, respecting their autonomy, preferences, and dignity every step of the way.

From day-to-day programming to seasonal camps, social nights, and weekend respite, Building Bridges infuses energy and independence into everything it does. Whether participants are catching a movie at The Norgan, cruising out on Lake Ontario, diving into hands-on science experiments, or building out their own peace corners, the focus is always on real-world engagement and freedom of choice.
By tossing out outdated frameworks and leaning into creativity, teamwork, and genuine human connection, Sierra and her team have carved out a one-of-a-kind space. Building Bridges stands apart because it doesn’t just offer care—it builds community, shatters expectations, and gives rural youth and adults the vibrant programs they deserve.
